Description

We need to be able to store various attributes for each game object type. Currently the need arose to store inventory thumbnails for carryable objects, as well as weight and bulk values. We also want to store default values for some basic attributes like description text (and allow to optionally override them in map file as it's done now). In future we'll almost certainly need to add stats modifiers for carryable items too - various resistances added by armor, weapon and ammunition strength and quality, etc. For non-carryable items the attributes can include hardness and lock complexity (for crates), etc etc.

Currently existing storages don't allow such a freedom of extension, so a new one needs to be created. Afterwards we may possibly merge some of the old storages into the new one.

Suggested structure -- xml files, one per object, stored in well-known location (under objects/<object_category>/descriptions) directory). They should be easily extendable with new attributes. Please implement support for such descriptions database, read those descriptions on startup (along with object images) and publish them for use in parpg scripts.

(In [537]) - Added support for an "Object Information Database"

  • Database is a .yaml file
  • Added setting for the database file
  • Database will be loaded when the engine is initiated
  • Database contains attribute values for objects that will overwrite the hard coded default values
  • These values can themselves be overwritten in the map file
  • The database file itself currently only contains 2 objects refs #185
